Lee Broom
Designers & Makers · UK“British lighting and furniture design's most theatrical showman, building pieces — and stage-managed launches — that turned a product presentation into an event.”
Why Lee Broom is in the Design 100
Lee Broom trained in fashion design at Central Saint Martins, and worked with Vivienne Westwood after winning a national design competition at seventeen, before moving into furniture and lighting. He founded his own studio in London in 2007, and the theatrical instinct from that early training never left the work: each collection since has arrived as a full production rather than a straightforward launch.
During London Design Festival and Milan Design Week, Broom has driven a converted delivery van from London to Milan to stage his Optical collection, and built full exhibition environments such as Observatory, which introduced the Orion and Fulcrum lights alongside pieces including Eclipse and Aurora. The showmanship is inseparable from the product, with crystal, marble and brass handled with the same care as the staging around them.
