David Alhadeff founded The Future Perfect in 2003, opening a small storefront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that set out to sell collectible design the way a gallery might, rather than a shop. That instinct hardened into a genuine format: staging work inside fully furnished, lived-in rooms rather than white-box retail, later formalised under the Casa Perfect name in Los Angeles and New York. It is now widely credited as the template other design galleries have followed since.
The list of makers who passed through those rooms early — among them Chris Wolston, Bec Brittain and Lindsey Adelman — reads today like a shorthand for a generation of American studio design. The New York Times has called The Future Perfect the country’s foremost champion of that work, and two decades on, with outposts extending to San Francisco, the gallery remains as much a talent pipeline as a showroom.
