Why André Fu is in the Design 100

André Fu moves across a register few architects sustain with any consistency: hotel lobbies, private residences and product collaborations, filtered through a design language shaped as much by Hong Kong’s density as by European restraint. Since founding his eponymous studio in 2000, he has built a body of work anchored by the Upper House in Hong Kong — still the reference point against which much of his hospitality work is measured — and extended through further hotels, residences and collaborations with furniture and textile makers.
