Why MAWD is in the Design 100

MAWD earns its place in the Design 100 for the range it has built from a single London partnership. Founded in 2010 by Elliot March and James White, the practice made its name on the interior design and FF&E for a run of apartments at The Shard Residences — proof, early on, that it could work at the top of one of the city’s most scrutinised addresses without letting the fit-out compete with the view.

That London grounding has since become the base for something wider: branded residential towers, from 14 ROC’s sculptural debut in downtown Miami to a growing slate of work out of a newer Dubai studio serving the Middle East market, alongside existing outposts in New York and Los Angeles. Few UK-founded practices have converted a domestic reputation into that kind of international, developer-facing scale — which is exactly the trajectory the Design 100 exists to track.
