Why Roham Shamekh is in the Design 100
Roham Shamekh’s work begins with a departure. Born in Tehran, he was working across photography, painting and sculpture by the age of fifteen, and he left home at eighteen to build a new practice in Dubai, where he founded his eponymous label in 2016. The studio works across disciplines, from tattoo painting and floral motifs to collectible furniture, built on the idea that a physical object can carry, and transmit, an intention.
That thinking reached its fullest expression in R O O T S, shown in the Curio programme at Design Miami’s twentieth anniversary edition in December 2025. A hand-carved sofa in ceramic and epoxy resin anchored the presentation, its form echoing the root systems that spread beneath soil, alongside two organic side tables and a painting carrying the same themes into two dimensions. Visitors experienced the work through headphones tuned toward the Schumann resonance, the Earth’s own low electromagnetic pulse, layered with harmonics designed to open the listener up.
