Why Joyce Wang Studio is in the Design 100
Founded in 2011, Joyce Wang Studio works from London and Hong Kong. Wang trained in architecture and materials science at MIT before studying at the Royal College of Art, and her interiors carry that engineering instinct, with unusual materials worked at scale rather than applied as finish. Mott 32 in Hong Kong, an early commission, was named World’s Best Interior at the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors in 2014, and the studio has since designed for the Mandarin Oriental group and Equinox’s Hudson Yards club and spa in New York.
That range across hotels, restaurants and wellness spaces has built a studio known for theatrical, material-led confidence rather than a single signature look. In 2015 Wang designed a chandelier for Swarovski that debuted at Art Basel Hong Kong, and in 2019 Louis Vuitton commissioned the studio to stage its Objets Nomades collection there. It is that combination that earns Joyce Wang Studio its place in the Design 100.
