Why Miminat Designs is in the Design 100

Mimi Shodeinde founded her London studio in 2015, while still studying interior and spatial architecture at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh — an early start that has shaped a practice built on confidence rather than caution. Miminat Designs works across private residential, hospitality and retail commissions, but its signature is the sculptural furniture, lighting and objects produced alongside each interior: pieces that draw on Shodeinde’s British-Nigerian heritage in their use of colour, pattern and texture, blurring the line between interior design and functional art.

That body of work earned Miminat Designs a place on Elle Decor’s A-List and House & Garden’s Top 100 Designers, recognition that has followed the studio into international coverage since. Shodeinde has gone on to judge the Dezeen Awards, extending her influence from her own projects into how the wider industry is assessed — the kind of range across making and judging that the Design 100 is built to track.
